Mastertronic was one of the best-known and most successful publishers in the 1980s.

Founded in 1983 they started a in the low cost segment with some of the games initially selling as low as £1.99 in the UK or 9.95 DM in Germany. In 1987/1988 the Virgin Group acquired Mastertronic in two steps.
